D.L. Coburn's Pulitzer Prize winning comedy drama The Gin Game is a touching story of the developing relationship between two elderly people in a rest home. The play unfolds as Weller Martin teaches Fonsia Dorsey how to play gin rummy, while discussing issues such as society, the hospitals, money, families, and the rest home where they live. Coburn’s first play is a treat with witty dialog, clever subtext, and moving drama as Weller and Fonsia’s relationship grows.
Fonsia Dorsey: 60-70 At the beginning of the play she appears to be genteel and reserved; offended by any hint of profanity; later she is revealed to be more tough and embittered.
